One of my favorite franchises on the PC is Heroes of Might and Magic. It was a very unique strategy RPG from the 1990s. I loved the first three games, but wasn’t all that interested in the series after that.
When I heard the news that the series was being brought back, I got excited! I wish they had gone with modern pixel art, but it looks like they didn’t do that.
Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era isn’t in early access yet, but you can request access to it. From the videos I’ve seen, it looks very good, and they’ve kept the gameplay the same, which is awesome!
What we know
This is a prequel to the other games in the series, according to the developer’s website (Link). The game takes you to a new continent that hasn’t appeared in the previous games. From reading the description and watching the trailer, it appears that they drew inspiration from the first three games, which is outstanding!
The game will feature six factions, five of which have been revealed so far. Here is a list:
- Temple — Humans
- Necropolis — Undead
- Sylvan — Nature
- Dungeon – Dark Elves and underground creatures
- Hive – Demons and Insects
These factions feel somewhat similar to how the third game was set up. Instead of specific races, you chose a city type and have various mythical creatures inhabit it. For example, Rampart had elves, dwarfs, unicorns, and humans, but it was all nature themed.
In the campaign, the big enemy is the Hive, an insectoid race. Seeing how this is a Heroes of Might and Magic game, there will probably be several campaigns to choose from.
Aside from the campaign, there are three multiplayer modes. I have a lot of great memories of playing this game with my friends. It seems like no one talked about it in my small town until I introduced them to it.
I’ll keep an eye on this one to see what is added. I’ve requested early access, but who knows what will happen. Worst case scenario, I’ll be playing this when it gets released to the public.
I’m kind of on the fence about the graphics. The second and third games still look amazing, but games aren’t made like that anymore. I’m going to keep an open mind because I don’t think the game looks bad, and maybe the graphics will grow on me over time.
A lot of promise
The developer has been uploading videos for each race to their YouTube channel. These are great! It’s a very cool way to showcase the game and the direction they’re taking each race. It also got me excited to talk about this game.
I’m really looking forward to this! Heroes of Might and Magic is one of those series that I grew up with, but lost track of as I got older. The third game has always been my favorite of the series, and is the one I keep going back to play.
Seeing the game take some influence from that entry is great. I’ll know more when I eventually get my hands on it, but what I can see looks very promising.

I don’t think the title of your article matches the content lol. Just kidding, mainly because I had some doubts after reading the article. https://www.binance.info/register?ref=IXBIAFVY
