Super Wrestle Angels: A Great Game in Need of a Translation

Let’s try something completely different. I’ve collected a few wrestling games for the Super Famicom, and I picked one of them out. Super Wrestle Angels is a wrestling management game, which sounded weird enough to get my attention.

This is a port of Wrestle Angels 3, which means it is part of a series. Since this game is about training and promoting women wrestlers, I’m a little worried about what is in this game. As much as I like anime, I’m not really interested in playing one of the “Adult Entertainment” games.

If this is better than the weird hentai dating game that the creepy guy I knew in the Navy played non-stop, then this should be good. If I like this game, then I’ll try some of the others. I’m going to have to rely on fan translations of this game to get through it, or at least get as far as I can before I give up.

TLDR: A game that is begging for a translation.

Narrative

Like many business simulation and management games, there is no story in the game. You take over a promotion and try to train your female wrestlers. There is a time limit in the game, as you have to make your promotion the best in the span of a few in game years. It is a very cool concept, and I wish I could experience more of it.

Gameplay

Super Wrestle Angels is a simulation/management game. I like this type of game because I normally find them relaxing. This is the first time I’ve heard of one that was based on pro wrestling. The gameplay is going to be rather different from other wrestling games, which isn’t a bad thing.

It took me some time to find a translation. I found a handful of blogs that explain what you need to do since I haven’t been able to find a translation of the game. The blog that it is on was very sketchy. I was able to glean some information from it, but not much.

Super Wrestle Angels supports up to 3 players. This is pretty cool, and since it is turn based, you don’t need to buy the multi-tap. Other games do this, which is always fun to see.

The gameplay is what you should expect from a game like this. You have some action points, and you can spend them on various things like training, promotion, and other stuff. I’m really limited by what I can and cannot understand.

This is a game that is screaming for a translation. I really couldn’t tell what was going on or what I was supposed to do. Super Wrestle Angels is a game that I want to like, but the language barrier is too great.

Visuals

This is the best part of all this. I love the look of the game. Sadly, that is about it.

The visuals look great. Everything is hand-drawn and looks very good. It plays out like a card battle or a visual novel.

I wish I had more to say here. There isn’t anything else that I can write about here aside from repeating myself. I wish there were more to say, but until I can find a translation, this is it.

Conclusion

There is no way that I can give this game a review score. While I know what I should be doing in this game, I have no idea what anything is. The only place that I could find a translation was very suspect.

My computer kept freaking out when I tried to get anything from the blog that translated some of the manual. I’m sure that there is something else, but I can’t find it. I wish I had studied Japanese back in the day.
