Now, I’m excited for Scarlet Hollow’s Last Episode

The second part of Scarlet Hollow Episode 5 was released a few days ago. It was pretty good, and I’m looking forward to seeing what all of this was about. I was a little confused about what I saw in all of this; not that I didn’t understand it, it was just weird.

The second part of this episode leads the player to the two farms mentioned a few times throughout the game. This was something that I remembered, but didn’t think about it at the time. I will be very interested to see how these events change when I play through the game again.

This chapter does set up something pretty awesome. The stones that you encounter during most of the chapters come into play again. While I didn’t see exactly what they were for, the game shed some light on what happened. Let’s go over what happened in my playthrough and mention some questions I still have.

So, What Happened?

The monster in this episode was a little strange. I was hoping it would be closer to the Pumpkinhead movies than it ended up being. This episode pays off the giant pumpkin that was introduced earlier in the game.

I was expecting something completely different from what was delivered. This doesn’t make the reveal bad or anything like that. It was clearly the sub-plot in the version of the story I was following. I don’t think this would change much if I took another path.

The big pumpkin was just a reason to get me to the farm so I could find “the witch.” What happened after the business with the pumpkin was over felt like one of the other games from this developer. It was rather trippy.

From what I gathered, the witch can alter events by sacrificing her daughter. We know who these characters are, as they’ve been with us for most of the game. As I looked back at what I did, I can see some of the signs as to who they were.

Wayne shows up to give the player some advice, and we lose a few other characters. We learned a little about the Scarlet family history, which is always fun. There is also something wrong with the town, and this reminded me of the movie “The Fog.” You have a town with a dark secret, and it is up to the younger generation to fix things.

Questions

Just about every question I have will be answered in the last episode, or through more playthroughs. As I look at where I am in the game, I know that I missed something. Here are a few of the things that I was thinking about during Episode 5.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the player’s role in this ending is going to be. There are still some things that aren’t clear to me, which is a reflection of my not playing through the game multiple times. Learning what deal was made for the Scarlet family will be very interesting.

There are some weird things that haven’t been answered in my playthrough. I know that some kind of deal was made between the Scarlet family and an entity, and that there is a witch. I’m just not too sure how all this is connected yet. Once the whole game is out, I’ll have to play through the game a few times to see what I missed.

I really want to know how many endings there are in this game. Trying to find them all will be a lot of fun. While I have a better idea of what is going on now, I’m not too sure how it will end, or how many ways it can end.

Wrap Up

I was really hoping for a Pumpkinhead monster. Instead, we got a pumpkin baby. It isn’t the worst reveal in the world, but it isn’t exactly what I wanted to see. The part with the witch was odd, and it reminded me of Slay the Princess. I liked that game, so I thought this was a cool and trippy part of the game.

Once the full game is released, I’ll go back and play the whole game. It will be fun to try something a little different. That is part of the fun with games like this, even if I’m not a huge fan of episodic game releases like this.

If you liked this post, please check out what I said about the other four episodes, Scarlet Hollow episodes 1-4, and the first half of Episode 5.
